Stony asked: How can I remove or fix scratches on our wooden dining room table? I noticed some scratches on my dining room chair too. This is not the only wood furniture item which has the problem of scratches but several times I notice scratches made by either kids or some sharp corners or other stuffs. I feel myself really helpless on how to remove these scratches from wooden furnitures.

In order to fix scratched foremost step is to know the type of scratches your furnitures have. The small scratches on the surface are superficial and do not penetrate the wood underside the finish. If scratch is lighter color than the rest of the item, wood is scratched and need some other methods in order to fix scratched. Below are some steps to remove surface scratches to the finish.

1. Take lemon juice and olive oil from kitchen and create a mixture of them. Now with the help of a nonabrasive clean cloth, apply mixture on scratch and rub it gently. Make sure you are rubbing it in the direction of the grains of wood. You can apply more mixture if as need and rub until the scratch is vanished.

2. Now apply any commercial oil finish like Old English.

3. For stain on Mahogany, rub iodine with the help of a cotton swab. For woods of light color like cherry or maple, apply mixture of 50% denture alcohol and 50% iodine with cotton swab. Apply it until the scratch is gone.

4. Rubbing nutmeat diagonally works well into the scratch. You can take almonds, walnuts or Brazil nuts for this.

5. Color the area with a color that matches the surrounding color.

Additional tips
